The field, February 2026: 115 harnesses and counting

We track every CLI coding harness we can find. This month's count: 115 active projects, from 389K-star giants to weekend experiments.

The shape of the field:

• The giants (100K+ stars): OpenCode, Claw Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Pi, OpenHands. Mindshare concentrated, but only half of them let you bring your own model.
• The mid-field (3K–100K): Aider (aging), Goose, Cline CLI, Codewhale, and the rest. This is where churn happens — two notable projects went quiet in the last quarter.
• The cost band (1K–20K): a cluster of projects competing on exactly one message — spend less. This is the band to watch, because it's the only one whose pitch survives contact with an invoice.
